[well, she's right about that. he huffs out a laugh, before settling back against one of the display bed pillows. silence follows, because he's trying to figure out where to start]

..... Let's just say I know a thing or two about being accused for crimes I haven't committed. No politicians, but there was an information broker type blackmailer creep that was blackmailing politicians and stuff.

[ she huffs, though. ]

But it's so messed up that you went through all that when you were just trying to help that lady!

[a soft snort, because. yeah. it was pretty messed up]

Yeah. But I was one of hundreds. And there were many lives he ruined both before and after mine. Lives that couldn't be rebuilt, like mine was.

. . . I think about it sometimes. [tilting his head up to look at her, expression pensive] If I had never been arrested, I don't think I ever would have become a Phantom Thief. So maybe, in a way?

I dunno, Akira, you've got such a burning spirit -- you might have ended up doing it anyway.

But it's funny how it works out, huh? Here's this bald jerk, trampling on lives like they're nothing --- and then one of the people he tries to trample rises up to knock him off his feet. Like a superhero origin story!

[he says with faint amusement. a deep exhale, and his eyes slip shut]

It's the reason why. . . I can't just accept this game for what it is.

I can't forgive anyone who takes advantage of the weak for their own selfishness.
