[and he tilts his chin up, voice firm, to accentuate that]

Max already told me about the risks involved.

[s-sort of? he mentioned the Composer didn't not have a temper, and that asking might risk getting Maya Erased, s-so]

I'll be on my best behavior. All I want from them, anyway, is just. . . information.

[ rude!!! anyway, she's folding up the letter and putting it back in the envelope carefully. ]

Hey, Akira? What do you hope to get out of this?

Out of meeting with the Composer?

[. . . he exhales deeply, his confident expression softening somewhat]

I don't really know for sure. [ha] But what I hope for the most is just understanding.

[understanding why he was volunteered for this job. why the game is built this way. why the Composer is doing what they're doing. why this is supposedly the best for everyone involved]

[because just knowing why could help soothe the tumultuous cognitive dissonance he's having between who he is on the inside and the crimes this setup are forcing him to commit]

[ she goes quiet for a moment, still hanging onto the envelope. weighing it on whether it's worth it to take this risk -- for both of their sakes. ]

What if the answer isn't one you can understand, or you can, but it's worse to know?

[. . . his eyes slip shut for a moment while he contemplates his response. but when they open, they're like flame-tested steel]

I'd rather try to understand and fail, or hate the answer I get, than continue helping my fellow Reapers Erase Players in ignorance.

[ honestly? that would have been her answer too. and it's the answer she needed. ]

OK. I'll deliver it.... but, I just don't want you to get your hopes up too high. The Composer is kinda finnicky and mysterious, so... I dunno if they'd agree to meet with you.

[purrtagonist]

[he nods, the fire in his gaze softening to gratefulness]

Thank you, Maya. It's okay if they don't accept, because at least then I know I tried.

Be careful, okay? Just don't get yourself punished by asking for my sake.

Little late for that! [ but she doesn't want him to feel bad, so she's going to try to be reassuring. ] But don't count me out just yet, I can always sweet talk my way out of punishment. I've got this adorable face, don't I?

[ the composer is accepting letters, anyway, so maya can argue that angle. ]

No one here has nearly as an adorable face as you, it's true.

Plus, the Composer is asking for letters. It can't hurt I send one when they opened themselves up for it.

Well, I've got a meeting with this mysterious phantom thief guy, but after that I'm free!

[he takes it like a champ, only standing up straight again when she's done. and now, he looks like a poofed up cat]
