I can't do anything except see ghosts when I'm in my body, so I use this to be able to leave it.

For me to really explain, I'll have to tell you how my world works.
When people die, their chain of fate is broken. It's what keeps your soul anchored to your body.
[He touches his own chest, unconsciously, as he keeps talking.]
They roam around in the living world after that, and if they stay there too long, their chain begins to devour itself, until it's gone - and all that remains is a hole in them.
[Actually...gonna rub his chest a little, because holy shit does he ever remember how that felt. It hurt. A lot.]
Because of that, they become Hollows - monsters that eat other people's souls in the hopes that they can fill that emptiness inside of them.
[He pauses, and then-]
I have one. He's part of the source of my powers, my Zanpakuto.
[That chest rubbing makes more sense now, probably - and 'soul cutter?' Welp.]

[Akira brings a hand up to his own face, fingers brushing against his cheek, underneath the frames of his glass lightly. his gaze grows distant, like he's thinking about something. . . and then he shakes his head]

No. I had him since I was born.
[Oh boy, that's getting into a bunch of shit, but here goes!!]
My mom was attacked by a special hollow when she was defending my old man - one someone had created from a bunch of other souls, so it was basically empty inside. She thought she defeated it, but it actually infected her, trying to use her like a host for itself.
[This is all second hand from his dad, but-]
My dad - a shinigami from a noble family - gave up his powers to seal it inside of her, and got a body to be able to live in the living world. I just inherited it.

Yeah. I actually had some issues with him a while back, but we figured everything out, and I accepted him.

No, I don't. I'm pretty sure no one does here - I've talked to a bunch of people so far, and they say theirs isn't working either. I'm just assuming I'm locked in my body, because -
[He clonks his badge against his chest.

...I haven't seen any ghosts around here either, but they could have moved on, or no one's died in this area.
[Which is...slightly frightening, considering Ichigo's a ghost magnet, but...
He finally turns his attention to Dazai, after a bit of not paying attention.]
...What about you, Dazai? Do you have anything you can't access here?

and then he. starts to read. effecting an older, sterner voice for the first person and a... well, it can only really be described as "naive" kind of earnest voice for the second.]
“Have you asked Tsushima about the ability he has?”
“No, not yet.”
Speaking of which, I’ve heard that he’s an ability user, but I’ve never had the chance to ask what it is.--that's because Kunikida-kun was busy knocking me out when I got too energetic for him.
“Tsushima’s ability… is the ability to nullify abilities with a touch.”

Nullifying. At a glance, it seems like a simple ability that doesn’t hold brilliance, but even among ability users, depending on how it’s used, it is an extraordinary ability that holds the possibility of shutting down other abilities.
[and claps the book shut. because. how the fuck would he know if his ability is working or not? he negates shit.]

We have no way to test it, but in that case we can probably assume Dazai-san's negation powers are gone, too.

Yeah, that's true. If everything else is being suppressed, why not negation powers?
The material I was talking about is called Sekkiseki stone [Literally, spirit reducing stone], and from what I understand about it, constant exposure to it drains away your power so you can't use it. And since it's stone, you could pretty easily make walls out of it or slip it inbetween walls.
[At least, that's his running theory for why they're trapped here with no powers.]

I've never had the stuff used on me, so I can't say how effective it actually is, but...it's better than thinking the Raccoons can somehow just shut our powers off whenever they want to.
