Well...there is - uh, was - the Quincy.

['Was' because as far as he knows, he just finished killing the source of their power and Yhwach's a dick who forcibly called back his powers from most of his people ANYWAY.]

They used bows and arrows, and their power came from the shard of Yhwach's soul inside of them. When one died, the piece of soul - and any powers they might have had - returned to Yhwach so he could extend his life.

[Hey Mcgonagall does that sound like a horcrux

Because Yhwach basically used people as living horcruxes]

[McGonagall blinks]

That sounds rather similar to a particularly dangerous dark magic from my world -- the part about using a piece of a soul to ensure you wouldn't die.

[That's a tad unsettling]

What, really?

[Man, what're the odds?]

Yhwach was bad enough - I can't imagine more people like him out there. Does that magic use other people, too?

The wizard needs to commit a murder in order to use this magic. Such a rather dark magic is kept away from general knowledge, but it's unavoidable some people will know it.

Commit a murder...

[Ugh. No wonder it was considered dark.]

...As far as I know, Yhwach didn't kill anyone. The people who had a piece of his soul ended up dying young more often than not, though.

[In order to feed their patriarch and let him continue living.]

...Technically, I have a piece of his soul in me, too. It carries through blood, and my mother was a Quincy.
