But the ones in the weapons closet are covered in glitter.

Glitter or not, they are actually designed for battle. You can ill afford to prioritize aesthetics over practicality.

It's not a matter of aesthetics.

It's a matter of not wanting to get glitter all over my hands.

[because he doesn't exactly want to advertise that he walks around armed at all times!!]

I fail to see how that is any more than an aesthetic nuisance.

People would know I'm armed.

If you weren't armed, it would just make you an easy target.

And whoever decided to come after me would underestimate my ability to defend myself, giving me the element of surprise.

Bear in mind that I armed myself before I got hurt.

The logic is still questionable. It would be foolish to assume anyone is unarmed in a situation like this.
